Faith over Fear

I think we can all think of a time we've been fearful. Maybe it's about a situation you're right in the midst of, or perhaps it's even just the fear of the unknown. Maybe you're scared as to what the future holds for you, or your anxious about relationships, family, or work.

Maybe it's about the current pandemic we're in.

I want you to know that we all face these times. And I for one, know that it can feel like a lonely and scary place.

If you don't feel peace in your heart right now and you feel afraid, I want to encourage you to dig deep into his word. You'll find it will give you comfort and truly still you when all seems chaotic and loud. One verse that is such a comfort to myself when I feel afraid or anxious is John 14:27, which reads:

“PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU; MY PEACE I GIVE YOU. I DO NOT GIVE TO YOU AS THE WORLD GIVES. DO NOT LET YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED AND DO NOT BE AFRAID.”

– JOHN 14:27

Things to learn from this verse:

”Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you”. God gives us peace…a peace like no other. We can feel reassured when we come to him. It's so important to remind ourselves that God doesn't want us to feel fearful or afraid. He is a good Father, who cares for us and wants us to feel at peace. He doesn't burden us or fill us with worry.

“I do not give to you as the world gives”. Whilst the world can pollute us with worry and fear, God does not. The worlds offer of "peace" is far more inferior to God's. The world may say to run away, change the circumstances you're in, lie and cheat to get out of a situation. But your Father who loves you and has your best interest at heart offers a different solution. He sees the whole picture of your story, of my story, of the world's story. Whilst you and I may focus as to whats directly infront of us, and that may worry us or feel unclear and scary, we can find rest in the fact that he knows what the future holds. He writes our stories, he sees the big picture! And I think we can find SUCH comfort in that. All we have to do is lay our worries and doubts at his feet, and let him be in control. I know that is not always an easy thing to do...but please be encouraged that he loves you more than you could ever know, and he is in control.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid”. You’ve probably heard this dozens of times, but the bible says “do not be afraid” in it 365 times…one for every single day of the year. When it says this, it means it. This means every single day we need to decide to “not be afraid”. He doesn’t want us to be fearful or to have troubled hearts. You and I can be fearless in God.

Challenge your fear. We need to ask ourselves, what are we afraid of? Romans 8:31 reads:

“WHAT, THEN, SHALL WE SAY IN RESPONSE TO THESE THINGS? IF GOD IS FOR US, WHO CAN BE AGAINST US?”

– ROMANS 8:31

Know that you can come to God, bringing your worries to him and laying them at his feet. He will give you peace and will pull you through the times when you feel fearful.

God bless you all,

Grace xx
